FILM POSTER

Poster analysis from Oliver Roberts

Dunkirk (2017) Movie Poster

I chose to analyse the Dunkirk (2017) poster due to it having some very similar links to my film Imminent Threat. In my film Imminent Threat a group of close knit brother face a huge threat to themselves and to their way of life, their skill and ability to survive will be tested and their brotherhood will be pushed to its limit. Their strong brotherly bond will be the only thing between themselves and the imminent nuclear threat the United Kingdom faces from North Korea.

Although Dunkirk is a historical action film which reflects back on the events which occurred 27th May - 4th June 1940 when 400,000 British soldiers were trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk and an immediate evacuation was needed. The British government called upon every British sailor to sail to France to rescue the British soldiers. It was a huge victory for Britain and the film pays homage to this victory whilst respecting those who lost their lives during the operation.

My film Imminent Threat contains some very similar links with Dunkirk, one of which is the element of survival and the fact that a teenage boy, played by Fionn Whitehead, follows a somewhat similar path to the group of brother follow in my film Imminent Threat. Fionn's character has to make choices in the film that no human should ever have to make, this is also seen in my film Imminent Threat as the three brothers come across an injured girl who the group believe too much of a hindrance to help.

One element of the Dunkirk poster I believe to be particularly appealing to me is the amount of ruin in the poster and the shock the soldier appears to be in, I believe I can make a similar link with my poster for Imminent Threat.

  1. You will need to consider how to present this using technology in a more creative way, that reflects the tools at your disposal. At the moment, it resembles an English essay.
